Career Transition Help

7th February, 2009 - Posted by Robin Ogden -

Needless to say, there are several million people out there right now that need ‘career transition’ help.  The latest figures are startling…nearly 600,000 people lost their jobs in January ‘09 alone - unemployment is up to 7.6% in the US and climbing.  As Obama said - this will soon be a “catastrophe”.

How can you help?  Sometimes it’s hard to imagine when something is so big, so large that it hovers over us like a giant - what little thing can ‘one person’ possibly do that could help?  So, we often just look the other way.

But there is something you can do.  The old saying “many hands do much work” can be applied to those who are in need of career transition help.  As Nancy Anton noted in her article “Can You Help Me? I’m in transition…”,

“Even though we cannot directly hire these people there are still many things we can do to help tip the scales in their favor with their search.”

Tipping the scale is what many people are in search of right now.  They just need a hand in forwarding their resume, finding a contact you may know in an organization or reviewing their qualifications and providing them with feedback.   Connecting with them on LinkedIn, or even helping those who are not as savvy on LinkedIn to create their professional profile.  There are many things that you can do to help - don’t turn your back, provide a hand and help to tip the scale.
