Retirement jobs? Sounds like an oxymoron, but its not. There are many people who continue to work after they retire from their career job either as a way to make additional money to make ends meet or as a way to keep busy. Additionally, many of these job resources focus on job seekers over 50 years old. And, like every other segment of the job search market, there are specialized sites for retirement jobs as well.
RetirementJobs.com - This job board, as you may have guessed, focuses on job opportunities for retirees or people over 50 looking for a job. There are tabs at the top for Jobs, Resources, Retirement Stories, Advice and Sign in. You can register on this site and post your resume. The main part of the page has a quick job search engine with career categories (for quick search) listed on the right. Resources an opportunity links are listed below with featured employers on the right. There were over 21,000 jobs when I checked.
RetiredBrains - “Find Full-time, Part-time & Temporary Retirement Jobs for Older Workers” is their tag line. Tabs at the top are Search Jobs, Post Resume, Job Seeker Login and Career Resources. You can register on the site and post your resume. Career Resources provides a wide range of resources like interviewing, franchise resources, financial services and more. Clicking on Job Search links to a job search tool and a generic search returned over 163,000 job opportunities. You can also sign up for job alerts based on the criteria you set.
Retirement Jobs Online - Yes, another retirement jobs search board. This site’s main page has a very long list of job search and career links down the left hand side of the page (too long to list here). Clicking on Job Search returns a basic job search tool along with a Job Seeker Tool Kit below (with things like Make Your Resume Stand Out, Gain more exposure to Employers and more). Along side the search tool is a list of job functions where you can do a quick search. You can also click on an advanced job search link. Their job search engine leverages Career Builder’s search engine and listed more than 100,000 jobs.
Top 20 Retirement Jobs and Industries - This article, by AARP.org, lists jobs that are good for retirement or “over 50″ job seekers. The article gives a brief overview of each job, along with requirements and expected earnings (usually hourly). There are some related links and articles on the right hand side of the page including a “Work@50” link.
Why Retirees Seek Employment and Why Employers Hire Them - Another great article from About.com, this article provides tips (including Jobs most often filled by seniors), a link to retirement job search boards, job search forums and related articles. The link to retirement search boards provides a short list of search boards which focus on +50 workers (a few are covered here). This is another good resource for retired/over 50 job seekers.
Good luck in your search.
