Executives Network

I had the pleasure of attending one of the Executives Network meetings last week in San Francisco and wanted to give you a heads-up in the event you decide to attend in the future.

This job search networking meeting is small but mighty.  This is a group that accepts members who are director level and above and/or have as a minimum managed groups of individuals in their previous position(s).  The meeting I attended was mainly VP and C level individuals with a handful of Director level - all very helpful to one another.

As their website states this is a meeting that gets right down to business. With each person being given the opportunity to introduce themselves to the group (aka 30 second commercial style), discuss their background succinctly and share what they are looking for (as specificially as possible - position, target industry, target companies, etc.).

Once you’ve finished your introduction the brainstorming begins with others sharing their knowledge, resources, contacts, etc. within the industry or company you are targeting.  Some walk away with direct contacts, others walk away with suggested resources to further narrow or expand their search.  Although the group is small in size there are dozens of ideas flowing, each one seeming to build on others with many take aways for each person. In all cases everyone is well ‘heard’ and specific attention is focused on each individual in the meeting.

The cost of this meeting is higher than many others I’ve attended, but the direct attention to your particular need may be well worth it.  You will also be advised of the advantages of becoming a member of the organization, which will then enable you to access thousands of members within their database.  Always a plus when your in job search mode!

So, I would definitely check out their site and would recommend attending a meeting or two to become familiar with how the group works.  These meetings are actually located all around the United States, so process may vary depending on the meeting.  However, best to brush up on your “30 second” commercial, because you’ll need it for your introduction.
