Several days ago I published a post regarding “the road less traveled” and suggested that one strategy is to look for job opportunities where there is less competition (and I still think this is a good idea). This post is the first in a series of posts reviewing Fortune’s list of the fastest growing small companies for job opportunities.  I will skip those companies that have been reviewed before as well as skipping companies that have very few employees. Let’s get started!

Astronics has 967 employees and provides aeronautical lighting systems (and other items), to the military and other companies. Their career site lists a number of awards and the companies benefits plans. There are links on the left hand side of the page there are links for Careers Overview, Open Positions and Benefits. The Open Positions tab provides a search engine and the ability to register and log in. You can search for jobs (there were 2 when I checked) or use a link to to submit your resume.

Gulfport Energy - Gulfport is an oil and natural gas exploration and production company located in Oklahoma City. Their career site gives an overview of the company followed by a snailmail address for resumes and an email address for resume submission (resumes must be in pdf or MS Word formats).

Interactive Intelligence - This company makes call center software and has over 500 employees (and some very large customers). Their career site provides an overview of the company followed by a list of what qualifications they would like to see (depending on the position). The left-hand side of the page has links to Open Positions, Recruiting Process and benefits. Clicking on Open Positions links to a search engine with the ability to log on or register and post your resume. There were 15 open positions when I checked (remember, it only takes one).

The Knot - This company is a wedding media and services company located in NY with 451 employees (a lifestage media company). Their career page offers a background on the company, How to apply, Benefits and a list of current jobs. They provide an email address to forward your resume as well. Clicking on any of the jobs (there were 12 companies when I checked) links to a job description along with a link for applying to the job.

Thomas Group - Thomas Group is a consulting company located in Texas. Their company career site provides a full background on the company with links to Careers, Opportunities, Benefits and Submit Resumes. The Opportunities page lists brief job descriptions (3 opportunities when I checked). Clicking on Submit Resume provides 3 ways to submit your resume - email, snailmail or fax.

Good luck in your search.
